Join us in the John Drew Theater for "Vietnam...Through My Lens" by Stu Richel. Stu served in the U.S. Army from January 1968 to January 1970. Through much of 1969, he was a combat photographer/writer with the 1st Infantry Division in Vietnam; it is that service which provided the impetus for this solo, stage performance. Stu shares memories and reflections, all related, directly or indirectly to his service over in Nam…the odd path by which he got there, what he did over there, and how things have played out since then. Vietnam, he has found, had tentacles that reached into the future. During the course of the show, Stu’s words are punctuated by video projections of some of his Vietnam photos. Those shots bring his memories…and the difficult period of the war…into focus, for you, the 21st century audience. His stories will touch your heart…and bring on a smile. And they just might give you pause to think a bit further about friendship, trust, tenacity and the like....things that matter, things that count, as we all stumble along and make our way. FREE. Registration is required.

One Night in Manoa is play that questions whether luck in love and life is about random chance or a matter of fate. When the two Gardiner sisters return to Hawaii after 20 years to bury their mother's ashes they find that their childhood garden, the place where their mother wished to be buried, has been destroyed. While the Gardiners wait at the Manoa Valley Inn for their father to arrive with the ashes, they are surprised to discover that an old friend of theirs, now a well-known TV star, is also staying at the Inn for one night only with his father, a former University of Hawaii professor and colleague of their father's. Like the Gardiners' recently deceased mother, their friend's father is a holocaust survivor who once had a close relationship with their mother that revolved around their love of gardening. What ensues is a multi-generational discussion on surviving the vagaries of life, and the final realization that what one really needs is often right before one's eyes. FREE. Registration is required.

Jack and Ruth, a seemingly perfect match, are suddenly faced with the question of marriage. In this smart and spirited play, serious differences, previously swept under the rug, are now forced into the light. She is culturally Jewish and her parents reject her dating outside the faith; he is a lapsed Catholic who scorns organized religion. She enjoys the finer things in life while he is happy to live with little means. She wants to get married and have a family. He has been married before and vows never to do so again. They make their cases with razor sharp wit and poignant pleas, but is staying together the right thing to do? FREE. Registration is required.
